Thanks Jennifer! I agree the Schnauzer likely happened with no human intervention, shall we say. 🙂 I’ve had a Google alert set up for “miniature schnauzer pit bull mix” ever since I got the Wisdom Panel results, and it occasionally finds people on Craigslist trying to unload them for free. This is no reflection on Lola, who is of course the best dog in the world.

I don’t know if you’ll be able to tell me any specifics, but I’m also wondering if it’s likely that my dog Lola has a substantial APBT component. Here are her DNA results: https://darwinsark.org/dog-profile-page/?dog_id=6378#dna-result

Before participating in this project, I had already tested her with Wisdom Panel which said 50% Mini Schnauzer and 50% American Staffordshire Terrier. Wisdom Panel also does not have APBT in their database and I had a hunch that AmStaff was simply as close as they could get.

I also have a feeling that my theory is bolstered by the Darwin’s Ark results, but just wondering if anyone can shed more light on this:

    48% Mini Schnauzer
    32% Unknown
    11.8% Staffordshire Bull Terrier
8% Others including Bull Terrier, French Bulldog, Boston Terrier

…so are APBTs basically Staffordshire Bulls bred over several generations with smaller bully breeds, and that’s why we get that breakdown in Lola? Or is it more likely that someone was breeding designer dogs like “pocket pits” and a Schnauzer accidentally got in the mix? 🙂 Lola was a stray before I adopted her from the shelter, so I know nothing about her early life.
