Dog description

Zuri is an incredibly serious and loyal dog. I call her my "bear chaser," not because she has ever chased a bear, but because I know she *would* do that if we encountered a bear on a hike. She loves all people and is very sweet and snuggly, but she reserves her extreme devotion for me, her one person. Her eyes are always on me and she is always curled up at my feet. She loves to play, swim, hike, and I used to do agility with her. In part because of her devotion, she is an exceptional off leash hiking dog, always sticking close and listening to me. Zuri is also social with other dogs, but she has very high standards for their behavior. She absolutely does NOT put up with silliness, so her favorite dogs are about as serious and well-behaved as she is. Dogs that don't listen to their people or run around like goof balls must be STOPPED, in her opinion. ;P

Dog summary

Zuri means "beautiful" and she is a very pretty little torpedo-shaped pup with a keen mind.

Quirk

Zuri always sneezes when she gets put her on her back! She likes being picked up and cradled like a baby, but she always ends up sneezing 😀

Does best

Well, she loves me best, but second to that she loves her frisbees and her food. Zuri is on a perpetual diet because she loves food so much and her cute little torpedo shape can begin to "fluff up."

Fun Story

We have never done herding with Zuri, although she has a strong herding instinct. One day my husband and I, another dog, and Zuri were hiking at a local natural area where cattle are sometimes run. The herd of cattle were all young, mischievous heifers and they began to follow us somewhat aggressively. I'm not easily scared, but 20+ 500 lb animals running after you causes reasonable concern. I decided to let Zuri do what her breeds were bred for and let her go. She did a beautiful job of herding the cattle away from us, running back and forth along the retreating stragglers to keep them all in one group and moved them off across the valley, about 1/2 mile away from us. She then turned and came running back, so proud of the work she had done!
