Dog description

Jake is a red, houndy boy with white feet and tail tip. He has long ears and a beautiful howl with a trained vibrato. He is sweet and squishy with a lot of loose skin and looks like a perpetual puppy. His head is a bit large in proportion to his blocky body. His tail curls forward until the tip touches the middle of his back and his tail appears as long as his body’s length. He has some food resource guarding and came to us with low muscle tone from a past we don’t know. He is well socialized with people and dogs and is a gentle when playing with other dogs, immediately flopping on his back. He is obsessed with food 24/7. Despite being well socialized, Jake had most likely never lived in a home: he screamed at sounds like the vacuum (which he tried to kill), blender, hair dryer. He was beside himself when we had dinner, so overly-excited and anxious that one of us had to distract him with treats while the others ate. He would urinate wherever. He never bent his head to sniff on our walks and would urinate only once, usually in the middle of the street. He has come a long way in the year we have had him. Throwing treats in the grass, hiding treats throughout the house has taught him that he has a nose. Our other dog has taught him other ways to be a dog like marking his territory (Jake averages going urine 3x on a walk now!), playing, sibling rivalry. We are so proud of him!

Finding a nugget of a treat, eating holes in our jacket pockets to get them

Fun Story

Jakey is silly and doofy and squishy and slipped on wooden floors when we first got him, he was like a baby, we could tell he wasn’t so smart. We knew this and accepted it because we already loved him. Meanwhile, he became obsessed with the popcorn our daughter popped each night for “dessert” and he would follow her into the den on the side or our house and watch her eat, barking at her the whole time. My daughter eventually became annoyed, (after an amazing amount of patience) because he is so cute and hilarious, and brought him to us in the back room. As soon as she closed the door and left, he ran to the back door and frantically rang the bells. We thought wow, he realllly needs to go to the bathroom! We opened the door, he ran down the steps and bolted straight across the to the side yard, where - yes! My daughter was in the den eating popcorn! That’s the moment we realized he’s an undercover Einstein!
