Dog description

Big brown cartoon eyes, extra skin around her neck, short legs, short hair, sweet, reactive and fearful.

Dog summary

Indi is a rescue. All of her litter-mates had long legs. Heart of gold and loves to cuddle.

Quirk

Indi has a gentle, sweet disposition with family. Unfortunately she is very reactive with strangers and dogs she doesn’t like. On leash, she can be aggressive, lunging and barking. After two reactivity programs, her trainer thinks it’s just genetic.

Does best

She loves to sniff. When we return home, she buries her nose in our clothing to learn where we’ve been.If we’ve been around other dogs, it takes an especially long time for her to finish sniffing. She loves to sit by an open window and sniff.

Fun Story

Indi’s best friend, Chui, is a shy Catahoola-mix rescue. Chui escaped from her home one day when the mailman startled her. She went on a twelve hour adventure, avoiding capture. She crossed bridges, and ran through neighborhoods, woods, and salt flats until after dark. Chui’s mom asked if Indi could come help with the search. Indi was on the team the whole day. Many of their daycare staff members left work to help. They all adore Chui but Indi can be a challenge. They’d say “hi, Indi,” in a tone that let us know Chui was really their favorite. At dark, Chui was stranded out on a tidal mudflat in the freezing Atlantic. Harbor masters from two different towns tried and failed to capture her in their boats. All the commotion brought firetrucks, animal control officers, police cars, and three news helicopters loudly hovering over the scene. Crowds gathered. Bridges were shut down. All of this terrified Chui even more. After the harbor masters’ boat scared her, Chui saved herself from the sandbar and made a long escape run under a bridge and up into the woods near a cul de sac. My daughter and Indi started to walk up to the area. A group of bystanders said not to go up. They said Chui was visible but wouldn’t come out. A group of people were trying to coax her out of the woods. Knowing Indi and Chui’s great friendship, my daughter walked right past the group and up the hill. Twelve hours after her escape, Chui saw Indi and came out of hiding in woods. She was scared and exhausted, but she wagged her tail to greet her best friend Indi. My daughter let them connect and then, as they stood there, she scooped Chui up and held on tight. Chui’s mom was very grateful and relieved to have her back safe. We all were. And that’s how Indi help save her best friend from her scary accidental adventure. She was mentioned in the newspaper too!
