    Hello Darwins Dogs,

One of my dogs in the study was just diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer. My vet is saying that it is usually a ‘large dog’ cancer and he has not seen any reports of it occurring where it is – in the face near the eye socket.

Since my dog is a mix of breeds – I want to know if there is a way to get her testing done – so we can see if it is in any way related to the breed mix that she is. I would be happy to contribute to making that happen.

    Thanks in advance,

    Katie

I just looked and I see that her samples are at Gencove – so I take that as a great sign!

Hi Katie, I am so sorry to hear about your pups diagnoses. May I ask what kind of bone cancer she was diagnosed with? We do have a vet in our group that is working on a few cancer projects. You are correct we have sent her sample off for sequencing.

OK – thanks! It was the radiologist who diagnosed her with bone cancer but the pathology came back with a fiberous carcinoma that was chewing up the bones in her face – so not bone cancer after all.

She is doing well after her surgery and I’m told I might have 6 months left with her. I want them to be good times so won’t make her miserable with more surgeries/chemo and radiation.

I would be happy to submit her pathology reports to your study if that were something that would be helpful to you.

Hi Katie, I am so glad to hear that she is doing great after her surgery, but am sorry to hear that her time is limited. I have no doubt her months will be filled with lots of love and snuggles! I will talk to the vet in our group and see if the pathology reports will be useful for her. Please give her a hug from us!
